BIO
Lacey IQ is a Texas-born, LA-settled electronic music obsessor and creator, remixer, and DJ, mixing tunes strictly for the love of dancers since the late 90's, and creating her own diversely-flavored catalogue of multi-genre music since the early 2000's. Influenced by the sounds of Chicago, New York, Detroit, Berlin, and London, her DJ sets often travel a road of many sounds--weaving between disco, tribal, acid, and afro house to deep, dark techno rhythms peppered with improvised samples, loops, and acapellas, it’s unlikely to hear the same set twice. Recently, a handful of releases on Krafted Underground, Good For You Records, and True House LA, as well as independently-released remixes for award-winning Southern California hip hop artist Artson, singer-songwriter Sariyah Idan, and LA darling Juliet Mendoza have put Harris on the map across a diverse array of music communities as a skilled producer, remixer, and mix engineer. These days she enjoys studio time, as well as dedicating herself to a weekly DJ livestream show on Twitch titled Radio IQ, boasting well over 200 episodes, which currently airs Saturday mornings 10AM - 12PM Pacific time.
The entirety of the artist's catalogue illustrates her personal creative creed in every sense of the word: nobody feels one way all the time. Equally diverse is her stylistic taste in music production, which, outside of house, techno, and experimental funk, reaches into the realms of ambient, trip hop, synth pop, and chillwave, via her self-professed “softer side” and alter ego Inquiri. Inquiri currently has three full-length solo albums--2010’s ambient trip hop excursion Walk For Miles, followed by the release in 2014 of Semi-Human, a bizarre, emotional, and beautiful experimental collaboration with longtime friend, Japanese recording artist and classically-trained pianist and vocalist Mayumi Kaneyuki. 2022 saw a warm reception of the first fully-ambient album release for Inquiri, entitled Seven, given life by beloved ambient imprint Stereoscenic Records, as well as a single which landed on double-LP compilation Healing Together (curated by longtime friend and collaborator marine eyes) on the prolific and passionately-followed indie label Past Inside The Present. In early 2023 an Inquiri remix was included on a bonus track reissue of marine eyes’ beautiful debut album idyll, joined by remixes from ambient heroes Ludvig Cimbrelius (Purl/Eternell/Iluvium), poemme, IKSRE, Andrew Klimek, and James Bernard (Influx). December 2023 revealed the epic collaboration between Inquiri and world-builder and prolific legend of many shades of electronic music (not to mention favorite artist and dear friend of Lacey’s), bvdub. Titled Destroyesterday., the album was pressed to CD entirely in Japan and released there via ambient/experimental-focused Tokyo label AY (founded 2010), with Past Inside The Present handling distribution outside of Japan. The long-anticipated epic contains four 20-ish minute, multi-movement journeys through darkness and light, comprised of the combination of signature bvdub detail, depth and intensity with the most haunted and out-front vocal exploration ever attempted by Harris, whose typical use of vocals in her own productions usually tends towards more blown-out, reverberating spaces. In July 2024, the fourth Inquiri record, titled See You Someday, an emotionally-charged journey through loss and rebuilding spanning a period of ten years, was released on Past Inside The Present, drawing a warm and enthusiastic reception from the label's community of devoted followers, and receiving sparkling reviews by Igloo Magazine, Moonbuilding Weekly, and others.
